Hello and welcome to our blog. I’m Kareema; Neo’s Food Scientist and head product developer.
Neo Juicery as a business started off as an experiment last winter. Although we have been very intentional in every aspect of our business, we really had no idea if Edmonton would be receptive to what we had to offer and whether we could compete in this market. We’re in this business – making Neo Juice – because we believe in our products’ power to make a difference in your health and well-being. Our conviction was that Edmonton needs a step up from what has been offered on the market; a product that can be superior in every way and fill the gap that others couldn’t. Our little experiment is doing well. In fact, it's doing better than we had expected and that’s all thanks to YOU.
As a scientist, I’m all about feedback loops. My brain is never satisfied if I am unable to monitor and evaluate every step of our process. The feedback we’ve gained over the past year has been very interesting. We’ve been challenged by many excellent questions from our audience collectively depicting one common need: the need for more education. It seems there are many misconceptions about cold-pressed juice, how it’s made, where food comes from, and what constitutes healthy nutrition. I’m not surprised by this at all. I have been immersed in the nutrition and food industry for the past 11 years, and I’m still confused at times. We took an afternoon under the guidance of super-brains much smarter than us to decipher what it is we have here and what we need to do in the future. We came up with a mind-map that led us to one very important conclusion: we need to take a step back, as if rewinding a movie tape, and start from an earlier chapter, and that chapter is FOOD. That is why I started this blog. I want to talk to you about food, which of course is never in isolation from Nutrition. This will not be your typical foodie/holistic nutrition blog with recipes of the months and tidbits about the latest antioxidant. Every self-identified nutrition guru with internet, a camera and taste buds can start a blog about that. My intentions are to push the boundaries of what is normally discussed online around food and health, and shed light on all the topics of importance to you that you may have been misinformed on. I will acknowledge that I come from an academic background, so you’ll have to take my approach to knowledge and education with a grain of salt. I’m going to give it to you as it is; no fluff and no marketing and I sincerely hope that my content will be of value to you as you make your daily choices around food and health. I intend to debunk a lot of myths, zoom in on B.S marketing and try to give you a glimpse into what our food system – and therefore our place on the continuum as a business - is all about.
I hope you’ll follow along…
